Metaxas Architects commenced practice in 1996. Since the practice’s inception it has continually grown and has a considerably diverse range of projects completed and currently underway. Our practice has specialist capabilities in Architecture, Urban Design and Interior Design and we work with a number of cutting edge collaborators to make design dreams come true.
Our vision for the practice is to provide innovative, unique and creative solutions that more than exceed our client’s brief and expectations. Our focus is on strategic planning and on producing quality architecture, interior design and urban design outcomes.
Metaxas Architects began in Queensberry Place in 1996 with George Metaxas growing the company significantly to fit into our expansive offices on Victoria Street North Melbourne, where the opportunity to undertake significant projects such as the Market Square development and Atlantis Apartments presented themselves.
Returning to Queensberry Street in a bigger and brighter location gave rise to the many projects completed since, and the evolution of the company as a small firm with a close-knit and experienced team undertaking remarkable projects in Melbourne, China, and beyond.
Our move to new offices on Cardigan Street in 2018 has made room for one significant project, Platanus, which not only reflects the futurism of Metaxas design, but the forward-thinking of a thriving team of urban designers affecting the landscape of our city of Melbourne.
George Metaxas has a Bachelor of Architecture Degree from the University of Melbourne, graduating in 1985 and is a Registered Architect and an Associate Member of the Australian Institute of Architects. He is the director of Metaxas Architects which was formed in 1996. Prior to this he was a principal and design director of Spowers Architects Pty Ltd, a national architectural practice. His urban design expertise is through his work on major projects both within Australia and overseas.
The projects Metaxas Architects have taken on since then have a rich and diverse set of principles, but always have the Metaxas DNA running through each design.
WE AIM TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT AND INGRAIN LONGEVITY AND DURABILITY IN OUR DESIGNS
WE ARE A GLOBAL TEAM WITH MANY RACES AND CREEDS REPRESENTED, AND WE STRIVE TO UPLIFT MIGRANTS AND WOMEN IN OUR WORKPLACE
WE SUPPORT MARGINALISED COMMUNITIES IN THEIR FIGHT FOR EQUALITY AND HUMAN RIGHTS
At Metaxas we have a long history of over 21 years of innovative, unique and creative solutions that have allowed our buildings and creative projects to create impact.
Some of the first projects Metaxas took on were the Bianchet Winery pavillion, our familial estate in Romsey, St Dimitrios’ Church in Moonee Ponds, Steampacket Place in Geelong, the Lily Street Beach House, and the Ardmillain Road house.
These projects honor the Metaxas DNA, with high peaks, floor to ceiling windows, iron beams, and unique perspective that run through all of our designs and are the reason why people come to Metaxas for great Australian design.
